Few homes have garages There is more open space. Few homes have gardens. There are fewer shops nearby. There are more shops nearby. It is closer to the countryside. The houses are mainly terraced. The houses are mainly semi-detached.

  2. Learning Objective: • To understand the different land use zones in a city. • To know the features that can be found in these zones.

  3. Central Business District (CBD) • has lots of shops • usually where lots of business and offices are located • very few houses • very little open space

  4. Inner City • Lots of terraced houses • Usually some factories and old industrial buildings • Some factories may have been refurbished into flats or knocked down to build houses

  5. Inner Suburbs • As transport improved people began to move away from the city centre. • Older suburbs quite close to the city centre • Start to find semi-detached houses. • More open space

  6. Outer Suburbs • Lots of detached housing • Lots of new housing • Lots of open space • Out of town shopping centres • Some new industrial estates
