  4. English and Social Studies • All students are required to take the following courses: • English 9 – ENG250 • Communications II – ENG251 • US & PA II – SST550

  5. Gifted Support Classes • Students who are a part of SOAR have the option to take these courses in place of the required English and Social Studies course: • SOAR English 9 - ENG831 • SOAR Communications II - ENG832 • SOAR US & PA II - SST861

CWCTC • 9th grade students will be allowed to attend Central Westmoreland Career and Technical Center. • Criteria to attend: • 70% Grade Point Average • Meets District Attendance Requirements • Good Behavior • Attend a CWCTC information session or tour • Review Career Path Information with counselor • Acceptance will based on the above criteria and number of spaces available in each shop.

  17. Air Force JROTC • 4-year program with minimum 120 contact hours per year • Turn-key support, including technology • Schools must teach AF-provided curriculum • 40/40/20 combination of Aerospace Science (AS), Leadership Education (LE) & Wellness

Air Force JROTC Extracurricular Activities • Color Guard and Drill Teams • Kitty Hawk Air Society • Academic Bowl (SAT/ACT) • Curriculum In Action (Field Trips) • STEM kits • Orienteering • Newsletters/website/AV squad • Air Rifle Competition Teams • Model Rocketry & Radio Controlled Aircraft Clubs • Incentive flights in civilian and CAP aircraft • CyberPatriot: Air Force Association sponsored on-line network-defense competition • Aviation Ground School • Survival Training • Marksmanship • Flight Simulators in Classrooms • Community Service Projects • Fitness competitions • Mentoring/outreach to middle schools *All programs are optional & require principal approval

Air Force JROTC Optional Summer Programs • Summer Leadership School (SLS) • Unit-hosted camps typically held for 1 week during summer; They are not boot camp --They are a reward! • Teach team building and instill self-confidence • Locally-determined focus: drill, STEM, leadership and more • Your unit may attend an SLS hosted by another unit with school permission • Partially/Totally funded by Air Force • Other Service JROTC/Civil Air Patrol Camps • Top cadets may compete to attend other STEM and leadership camps

  26. Scheduling Online • Students will access Skyward Student-Family Access via the web at https://student.norwinsd.org • Enter username and password. The login must be the STUDENT’S username and password. Parent accounts are not able to select courses. If your child does not remember his/her username or password he/she will need to visit the guidance office to request that information.

  27. Online Scheduling • When logging on to your Skyward account, 8th grade students will need to change over to the high school. To do this, use the pull down menu at the top of the screen and select “Norwin High School”.

  28. Online Scheduling • Once you have logged in, click on Courses for 2014-2015 under the Course Requests heading on the left hand side of the screen. If you do not see this option, verify that you are logged in as the student.

  29. Online Scheduling • Once the screen changes you will see a series of tabs across the top of the screen; click on Update Requests to add courses to your schedule.

  30. Online Scheduling • To add a course, highlight the course in the left column and click the Add Course button. The highlighted course information is copied to the box on the right side of the screen. Courses listed in the box on the right side are the courses you are requesting for next school year.

  31. Online Scheduling • If you need to delete a course, highlight the course in the right column and click Remove Course (at the bottom of the column).The course will be removed from your selections

  32. Online Scheduling • Once you have finished selecting courses, click on the Alternates tabthat is across the top of the screen. All students must add two alternate course selections, but can add up to four. • Alternate course selections are added in the same way as the other courses are added. • Alternate courses are numbered in priority order so please be certain to verify that the priority number (1, 2, 3) corresponds with your choice alternatives. Alternate course selections are used when your first choices are already filled or cannot be accommodated in your schedule.

  34. Online Scheduling • Once you have completed all course selections and alternate selections, click on the Selected tab to view all courses added. This will provide you with an overview of your course choices for next school year. • When finished, logout of the system

  35. Scheduling Faire • The Scheduling Faire will be on Thursday, January 16th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the High School Auditorium. Hope to see you there!
