  1. Next Steps Critiquing, researching, simulating, discussing

  2. Critiquing • Find 1-3 papers in your field that use a simulation approach. • Consider what research question the authors are trying to address, and whether you think they have succeeded. • Write a few paragraphs on this.

  3. Researching What sort of role might simulation play in your research? • Would it be sensible for you to program a simulation, or use an existing simulation? • What would this tell you that you could not find out otherwise? • Where might you get hold of the data you might need for this? • If you are thinking of doing a simulation, write a few paragraphs on what this simulation might be like.

  4. Simulating • Go through the short tutorial within the netlogo manual. • Explore the library of models (File >> Models Library) • Visit the NEISS portal (in beta version): http://pulsar.rcs.manchester.ac.uk:8080 • Username: guest • Password: guest • Have a play around, see if you can make a simple adaptation to an existing model.

  5. Discussing and sharing • Join the course Facebook group! Use it for requesting help, asking questions, and answering them too. • Join the Netlogo discussion group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/netlogo-users/) • Join the Leeds netlogo users’ group

  6. Getting feedback • Post your critiques, research ideas, code snippets, etc. to our Facebook page. • Course tutors and other students can comment.

  7. What do you want to achieve? • What are you looking to get out of this course? • We can try to tailor (some!) content in the next three sessions towards these goals. • Next session, May 3rd 2012
