Meriwether Lewis • Born on August 18, 1774 • He was interested in natural history from a young age • He was always outdoors • He joined the Virginia militia and helped put down The Whiskey Rebellion • He joined the Freemasons in 1997 • He was appointed as Jefferson’s personal aide • He died Oct. 10, 1909 • His death is generally accepted as a suicide

  3. William Clark • He was born August 1, 1770 • His brother was George Rogers Clark • He joined the Kentucky militia when he was 19 • He got married to Julia Hancock on Jan. 5, 1808 • He died on Sept. 1, 1838 • In 2001, Bill Clinton posthumously made Clark a captain in the U.S. Army
