Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India

  37. Contd… • Widespread caste disparity and Untouchability in cooking, serving or eating mid-day meals in Narsingpur, 1 (2.5%), Hoshangabad, 3 (7.5%), Shivpuri, 1 (2.5%), Burhanpur, 2 (5%) Betul, 4 (10%) Chhindwada, 3 (7.5%) ,Sidhi, 11 (27.5%) , Panna, 2 (5%) Satna and 2 (5%) schools in Chhatarpur districts. • kitchen sheds constructed but the implementing agency is not cooking food in those kitchen sheds due to water leakage or theft problem. The kitchen shed is made up of dry grass. Hence there is a fear of fire. • Irregular payment of cooking costs to the cooking agencies. • Roster for community found to be maintained only in 45% out of 520 schools.

  38. ISSUES • Coverage against enrolment going down at Primary stage • Delayed payment to Cook-cum –Helpers • Review Mission Observations: • State should take time bound action to put a Financial Management Information System into place starting from block to State level. • State must initiate immediate action for filling up of vacant positions at each level of management in a time bound manner. • In view of the high prevalence of fire wood chulhas as a mode of cooking in the rural areas, the state may explore LPG option. • ATN on Review Mission is awaited.
