Local project - We Scare Hunger • “We Scare Hunger” – collect non-perishable food items needed at Hope 4 Youth while trick or treating • Either deliver flyer before or just explain that night • Go with friends. Bring food items in to Mrs. Phillips office • Volunteers to sort, weigh, and deliver the food (Saturday morning November 8th • How can we get MORE students at BHS involved in We Scare Hunger? • Posters? • Asking teacher if you can announce in classes? • Other? • Flyers – opinions? What color paper? Cardstock needed? I can have them ready by the meeting next week • How many flyers? Student Leaders for this project needed– you need to meet/get together to plan

  3. Global Project Feed my Starving Children (FMSC) • Great job on September 30th. Pictures posted on website • Next Date is October 15th • 12:00-2:00 and 2:30-4:30 – sign up for one or both • We need 18+ volunteers – can your parents stay to help? Sign up on the website under 18+ and indicate “parent” in the comments. • Fundraise to donate - Every box of food packed is 216 meals and cost $50 • M & M containers full of quarters = $14 • Money collections boxes – where can we put them around the school? At home? Other? How many boxes should I get? 3 for each person? You report back where they are and are responsible for collecting money out of them? • “Penny Wars” • Pledge to give 33 cents a day for 33 days….can we get 333 students to do this? = $3626 month raised to donate! Save until March (3rd month)? • What should we start with?

  4. We Day Update • Get your applications in, there is a good chance you may go! Due TODAY! • Applications that come in after today will still be considered IF there are spots still available. Tell your friends you haven’t already • You will know in two weeks are our next meeting

  5. Jefferson Awards Foundation • Monthly Student Award – Nominations based on Service work • Fall Leadership Training Conference – Saturday, NOVEMBER 1st – FREE! We’ll take a bus if there is enough students (at U of M) – Learn Team Building, Values and Ethics, Leadership, Assessing Community Needs, and Project Planning to carry out activities that help build a culture of service in school. • Winter Leadership Training Conference – Learn Fundraising, Marketing, Media, Project Management and Tracking Impact. Use skills learned to grow service, plan successful events, share service stories, and to have a measurable impact on the wider community • Spring Celebration & Competition - Teams prepare written report and oral presentation for the Spring Competition. Top scoring teams represent their regions at the Jefferson Awards National Ceremony in Washington, D.C. Who wants to go to the November 1st training? Let me know TODAY or ASAP. Deadline for final commitment and permission slips will be October 22nd

  6. Lettering • Requirements available by our next meeting Involves: * Attending meetings * Participating in the We activities * Leadership role in something during the year

  7. Student Intern Needed • Like a TA, commitment of at least one trimester, prefer full year • Data entry, filing, organizing • During Study Hall • Before/After School – qualifies for Youth Service Hours!

  8. Meetings • Every Wednesday 7:25 to 7:55 – still trying to get a different location • If you can’t make the morning meeting, come to my office in the IMC after school on Wednesday for a meeting “make-up” (shortened version meeting). • Attendance is not mandatory for membership. Attendance only counting if a member is trying to letter.
