  3. Implements the New Economic Policy (NEP) after the Red-White Civil War Kept major industries socialist—allowed for private enterprise amongst farmers and small busienesses This plan gets Russia’s economy established and stable by the 1920’s. Lenin’s rule

  4. Lenin suffers a stroke in 1922 Dies in 1924 The struggle to replace him was between Leon Trotsky (leader of the Red Army) and Joseph Stalin (General Secretary of the Bolshevik Party) Lenin’s successor Trotsky Stalin

  5. Stalin defeats Trotsky and becomes the 2nd Soviet Premier Lenin is exiled to Siberia first, then Mexico, then murdered in 1940. Lenin’s successor
