  1. Comparison between satellite and aircraft observations (and model output) from CLEX-10 Curtis J. Seaman and Yoo-Jeong Noh Objectives: Characterize microphysical properties of mid-level, mixed-phase clouds where icing is likely Validate satellite retrievals of cloud properties Improve satellite retrievals Compare satellite and aircraft observations with WRF model simulations Improve models

  2. DoD Relevance: Mid-level clouds (altocumulus and altostratus) cover 20-30% of the Earth and often contain supercooled liquid water, which causes aircraft icing They form at mission critical altitudes and impact pilot visibility, battlefield damage assessment, refueling, target detection, laser communication These clouds are difficult to forecast

  3. Deliverables Since Annual Review: BACIMO presentation (Y. J. Noh) and poster (Y. J. Noh and C. J. Seaman) IGARSS Symposium poster (C. J. Seaman) CoRP Symposium presentation (Y. J. Noh) Data assimilation workshop (?) Visit by Peter Rodriguez (Environment Canada) with Y. J. Noh Other?
