ResearchWeight • 75% of women of healthy weight believe that they are overweight • Top wish of most high school girls is to be thinner • 30% of men in the US are currently on a diet • Over 80% of 10 year olds in the US say they fear becoming fat • Anorexia is 3rd most common illness in adolescents • 8 million Americans suffer from an eating disorder • I million men • Age 15-25

  4. ResearchAppearance • 80% of US women aren’t happy with their appearance • 88% of teenage girls feel the need to look perfect when leaving the house • Average woman spends over 2.5 years doing things to their hair • BDD- Body Dysmorphic Disorder • Obsession with personal appearance flaws

  5. ResearchModels • 7% of women are naturally built like models • “Skinny models” started so their appearance wouldn’t compare to the clothes • Average model – 5’10’’ 110 pounds • Average woman – 5’4’’ 145 pounds • 20 years ago, models weighed 8% less than average woman • Today its 23%

ResearchMedia • Exposure • Only 10% of women on television are overweight • People are exposed to 2,000 ads daily • 45 million by age 60 • Teenage girls spend over 4 hours a week reading magazines • 69% say models in magazines influence their idea of perfection • 80% of women say that images seen causes insecurity • Barbie • Six feet tall, 100 pounds, wear a size 00, 39 inch bust, 33 inch hips, 18 inch waist • Wouldn’t be able to walk or hold neck up
