  2. Course Evaluation Weights • Safety (first 3 days) ($2.00 lab fee) 5% • Homework 5% • Participation/Preparation 5% • Labs (8 total, 2 per unit) 15% • Chapter Quizzes 10% • Assignments/Projects 20% • Unit Tests 20% • Final Exam 20% • Total 100% • (Pass mark = 60%)

  3. Course Materials • Binder, lined paper, pen or pencil • Textbook • Graph Paper • Scientific Calculator • Brought everyday!

  4. Units: Test Dates • Unit 1: Reproduction (mitosis, types of cells, etc…) Thursday, October 15th • Unit 2: Matter (types, chemistry topics, etc…) Tuesday, November 10th • Unit 3: Electricity (currents, static, use, etc…) Wednesday, December 9th • Unit 4: Space (solar system, star formation, etc…) Friday, January 15th

  5. Late Assignment Policy: LATE POLICY:All assignments (excluding major projects / assignments) not handed in on time are subject to the policy outlined below: • For every day an assignment is late, 10% (to a maximum of 40%) is deducted from the students overall mark. • After two days, students will be referred to the learning lab until the assignment is complete. NOTE: Failure to comply with this policy will result in an administrative referral.

  6. Late Assignment Policy: MAJOR ASSESSMENT LATE POLICY: • One day late – students can achieve a maximum of 60% of the total assignment value. • Two days late, students will be referred to the learning lab. Once the assigned work meets the teacher’s expectations, students will receive a maximum of 60% of the total assigned value. NOTE: Failure to comply with this policy will result in an administrative referral.

  7. Expectations:We all respect each other and work together to be successful together. Student: 1. Attend class regularly, be on time and ready. 2. Bring course materials (binder, paper, pen or pencil) every day. 3. Class participation, work to the best of your ability. 4. Be organized and aware of quiz and test dates. 5. Get notes (from students) and handouts (from teacher) it time missed. 6. If a test is missed, it must be written at noon hour, the day of your return. 7. Ask questions and attend extra help when necessary. Extra help available upon request.

  8. Parents: 1. Be aware of homework, marks, and attendance. • Provide help to son/daughter when needed. • Textbooks must be replaced if damaged. (Textbook Price $94.00) Teacher: 1. Provide a positive learning environment. 2. Provide communication of marks (monthly mini-reports) 3. Provide extra help upon request.

  9. Exemptions Exemptions: • Will be awarded according to LHHS exemption policy. • A zero on any assigned work could result in forfeiting your exemption. • A homework mark of at least 75% (based upon completion) is required to qualify for exemptions. • Go over it with your parents. • Make sure you understand how it works so there is no surprises at the end. • 85% (up to 12 excused absences) • 75% (up to 4 excuses absences) • Be in class on time. • No suspension. PLEASE NOTE: An exemption is an earned privilege NOT a right and the final decision regarding exam exemptions is at the discretion of the subject teacher. Good Luck and let’s have a great semester!

  10. Bell Rings • Be in your assigned seat • Have your books out on your desk • Book bags are to be left in your lockers. That is: Come to class prepared.

  11. Other matters… • No MP3, ipods or CD players without permission • No swearing • No cell phones • No food • Bring water / no problem • Writing or marking on desks is VANDALISM!

  12. Washroom Breaks • During Lunch break • If you must go during class time, you MUST have your AGENDA SIGNED by your teacher or supply

  13. Guidance/Admin Appointments • Students are to make their own appointments outside of class time. (before school starts, noon hour or after school) • Students must have a signed appointment slip in order to leave class and give back to the teacher when they return.

  14. Fire Drill Procedure • Leaving the classroom • Where to exit the school • Where to meet • Coming back to class after the drill

  15. Bullying / Harassment • Zero tolerance • Everybody should feel good about themselves when at LHHS • If you see it happening – step in or tell someone.

  16. Perfume • It’s easy, no perfume or any scented product is allowed!! • Some people have serious chemical sensitivities

  17. Garbage • Pick up after yourself • Leave classroom looking neat. Check around you and pick up stuff. If everybody picks up one thing, the floor will be clean for the next class. • SHOW YOUR “LION’S PRIDE”

  18. Detention Halls • Noon hour and after school • Your homeroom teacher will assign detention for truancy. Any ONE unexcused absence and you get TWO detentions • If you don’t show up, you will deal with administration who may give you in-school suspension. Saturday detention is also a possibility
