  2. Compassionate • showing feelings of sympathy for the suffering of others, often with a desire to help • Bob was compassionate about his friend because she lost a loved one.

  3. Sympathetic • feeling or showing sympathy; pity • I felt sympathy for the dog who just lost his leg.

  4. Haughty • disdainfully proud; snobbish; scornfully arrogant • The girl haughtily walked passed the poor.

  5. Mocking • to attack or treat with ridicule • She made a mocking mimicry of the teacher.

  6. Pessimistic • expecting the worst possible outcome • Sherry was pessimistic about her job interview.

  7. Severe • intensely or extremely bad or unpleasant in degree or quality • The Atlanta area had a severe snowstorm.

  8. Somber • lacking brightness or color; dull • The funeral was very depressing; everyone was at the state of somber.

  9. Suspicious • doubt about someone's honesty • I felt suspicious because everything was broken and there was only one person there.

  10. Ominous • suggesting or indicating that something bad is going to happen or be revealed • The sun gloomed away ominously across the sky.
