What they do • Responsible for making copies of prints found at the crime scene and checking them against known criminal’s prints on a central database. • Fingerprints, palm prints, footprints. • Recognition software, digital scanning and huge databases make the print examiner’s job easier and more efficient.

  3. Education and Skills Needed • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific field from an accredited college or university, or current certification as a Latent Print Examiner by the International Association for Identification; and three (3) years of experience as a Certified Latent Print Examiner in a recognized latent print laboratory actively engaged in the development, comparison and identification of latent fingerprints.

  4. Employment Prospects • Salary: $108,000 to $158,000 • Competition in the investigation field is high. • The field is attractive to many recently graduated students as well as to working professionals.
