  6. Event Rate(may also be referred to as the annual rate or incidence rate) Measures the proportion of students who drop out in a single year without completing Vocational training. Typically yields the smallest rate.

  7. Cohort Rate(may also be referred to as the longitudinal rate) Measures what happens to a single group (or cohort) of students over a period of time. Typically yields the largest rate of dropout.

  20. III.- Measuresadoptedbythe French LycéeSaint Etienneand the MIJEC whichwillbeproposedto use in ourschool. M.I.J.E.C. : Mission d'Insertion des Jeunes de l'Enseignement Catholique

  21. 1.- Meetings of the educational team every 15 days to analyze the situation, the measures that could be adopted and the progress accomplished (MIJEC) / Reunions de l´équipepédagogiquetous les 15 jours pour analyser la situation, decider des mesures à prendre et evaluer les progrèsréalisés (MIJEC) Reuniones del equipo docente cada 15 días para analizar la situación, las medidas que podrían adoptarse y los progresos realizados (MIJEC) • Comparative analysis: We hold 4 meetings arranged in advance every academic year and we have an uncertain number of them which are not previously settled and which depend on the characteristics of the group. At the beginning of the academic year, those 4 arranged meetings are scheduled and, unless a problem arises, no more meetings are held.

  22. Measures proposed to be applied: It would be necessary to arrange a higher number of meetings every year. The total number of arranged meetings would be 10 and they would not be arranged in linear fashion (there will be a higher number of meetings in the first trimester, reducing the number of them as the academic year draws on). Even so, it is considered the possibility of holding more meetings depending on the peculiarities of every group.

  23. 2.- Data collectionsheets(Lycée) / Fiches de rensignement / Hojas de información • Comparative analysis: In CE Ave María San Cristóbal, data are collected by Secretary’s Office, the tutor (main teacher of a group) and the Guidance Department. The tutor gets the whole information along the first trimester, normally mid-October, which we consider it is a bit late.

  24. Measures proposed to be applied: : The tutor should gather the maximum amount of information as soon as possible, even knowing that some data are going to be or has already been requested by different departments.

  25. Data sheets are going to be design in order to make easier for the tutor to gather the information he needs before late September. These cards will be: / Des fiches vontêtrecréesafin de faciliterl´obtention des informations par le tuteuravant fin septembre. Ces fiches sont: • Cards which will be filled out by the parents/ Fiches à remplir par les parents • Cards which will be filled out by the students / Fiches à remplir par les élèves. • Data expected to be collected: / les donnéesà recueillirsont: • Name, age, address, contact number / Nom, age, adresse, telephone • Previous school / Ecoleprécédente • Relation between parents and their children / Relation des parents avec leurenfants et vice versa • The most valued aspects in teachers / Quels aspects des professeurs valorisent-il - Parents’ expectations from the teachers and the school / Attentesenvers les professeurs et l´école de leursenfants • Physical and mental health conditions / Condition de santé, physique et mentale

  26. 3.- Conflicts resolution techniques. The MIJEC carries out Words Workshops, Social Skills Workshops, Outings to the theatre, a higher number of sport activities. (MIJEC) • Comparative analysis: The number of hours which are dedicated to sports is scheduled and it does not depend on the problematic of the group. Sports is considered just a subject and it has not been used as a way to solve conflicts, excepting a few cases.

  27. (Comparative analysis / AnalyseComparative) Time spent solving conflicts is not systematized and it depends on the solution required in a particular situation: some specific time to deal with conflicts has not been previously established. Just in Initial Vocational Training Programmes (PCPI) one hour a week is set in order to exchange all kind of information (academic, personal, etc.) between tutor and students. All the outings (theatre, visits, etc.) are scheduled along the academic year.

  28. Measures proposed to be applied: : • The number of outings during the first trimester should be increased in order to make the members of a same group get closer (sense of belonging). Moreover, outings should be adapted to the objects pursued: along the first trimester, group identity should be achieved; and in the second and the third trimester the aim of our school should be to make the students identify themselves with our school philosophy. • The number of hours in class should be adapted to the group necessities as they are detected. • Different kinds of materials should be used to work social skills, moral growth, rules acceptance and its observance.

  29. 4.- Adjust the measures adopted to the particular problem. Materials used by students in the peer mediation classroom are connected to the specific problematic situation. Comparative analysis: In our school, when a student is sent to the peer mediation classroom for a few days, he works with all kinds of materials, not just with those which are related to the specific problem. • Measures proposed to be applied: Measures adopted should be adjusted to the particular problematic situation. The materials which must be done by the student in peer mediation classroom should be connected to the specific problem.

  31. 6.- Changeclassestimetabletomakeeasiertheobservance of the rules. Cetteactiviten´estpasprésentedansnotrecollège • Measures proposed to be applied: / Mesures à appliquer: Classes timetable should be changed to make possible a short break between different periods. This measure would help to avoid delays in the students and would make the observance of the rule of not being late much easier.

The aim of this role is to “mediate among equals”. This means that students are the ones who try to avoid conflicts considering that they are aware of them from the very first moment. Problems are tried to be solved without teachers intervention.
