Classification History • The current classification scheme is based on works by Swedish scientist Carolus Linnaeus (1758), American plant ecologist Robert Whittaker (1969), and by American microbiologist Carl Woese (1977). • Organisms were/are classified by: • Skeletons • Size, color, feathers, fur, etc… • Embryos • DNA • The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) http://iczn.org/content/about-iczn
