  2. Session Objectives • Be able to describe a range of emerging technologies – the hardware involved, how they work and benefits they offer, • Understand the impacts of emerging technologies on people and society.

Emerging Technologies • ICT doesn’t stand still and technology is constantly evolving and new devices / concepts are released, • What technologies are currently emerging?? • Cloud computing, • Greater storage capacities, • HTML 5, • Mobile networking, • Mobile working on laptops / Home working, • On-Line Gaming, • Remote monitoring (RMON), • Server virtualisation, • Tablet computers, • Video on demand, • Voice over IP (VoIP), • Web interfacing.

For the assignment • For each technology you need to be able to produce: • A description of the technology • What it offers, how it works, what we would do without it • Examples of the technology • A solid example of how the technology is being used. This might be a scenario, the hardware involved or a description of how the emerging technology is used. • Good aspects of the technology • What you think is good about the technology • Bad aspects • What you think is bad about the technology. • Impacts of the technology • How the technology will affect people and society – both postive and negatively.

Evidencing P3 TASK 1 PART B • This task requires you to add some notes to your presentation which identify and describe three emerging technologies, • The assignment suggests server virtualisation, video on demand and IPv6 but it could be any three from those covered in topic 7 which you find interesting, • Include within your notes – A description of the technology, examples of the technology and when used, good aspects, bad aspects, impacts of the technology, • Remember to only include the main points within your presentation and add detail using the speaker notes. P3 – Identify emerging network technologies For P3 an emerging technology is defined as any recent network technology! Identify means that you point out and give a list of the main features.
