  2. How acupuncture works • The general theory of acupuncture is based on the premise that there are patterns of energy flow (Qi) through the body that are essential for health. Different acupuncture points lie along the body's meridians. Stimulating these points with acupuncture needles or pressure relieves obstructions in the flow of energy, enabling the body to heal. • According to traditional Chinese medical theory, acupuncture points are located on meridians through which gi vital energy runs.
