  1. Actual Work Flow Of Court Reporter In Georgia Submitted By : GeorgiaReporting

  2. A court reporter is a stenographer who is one of the most important parts of the judicial systems. • The stenographer uses a stenotype machine to capture verbatim everything that is said during a proceeding. • The proceeding would be a criminal, civil or any other; a court reporter must be the highly skilled and trained. • The purpose of a court reporter is to ensure that everyone's rights are protected during a legal process, whether it be in public hearings, tribunals, inquiry boards, in courts, or in legislative assemblies and committees.

  3. Today, many court reporters even work outside of the legal arena to provide real-time closed/broadcast captioning services to a broadcast network during sporting events, political speeches, live entertainment events, conventions, and conferences. This is yet another way of finding a way of professional opportunities. There is systematic process through which a court reporter works. The process is as follows:

  4. Steno Dictionary • All reporters spend most of their time while building their “steno” dictionary. This is a never-ending job as for every word; for each phase; the court reporter has to define the English translation. It is said that the more complete a reporter’s steno dictionary is, the better the translation is.

  5. The Editing Process • Once the deposition ends, reporters “scope” the transcript. This is a process where the editing process takes place. In this process, the words that are not translated are corrected or defined. Most of the times proper and correct names and specialized time are not there in the reporter’s dictionary. Therefore, at such times these words need to be added. This is done in the scope process.

  6. Proof Reading Task • Once the scope step is completed, the next process is to proofread the transcript. This is done to make sure that there are no errors and typos. It is also seen that there are no spelling errors of specialized terms and name are written correctly.

  7. The final Step • Once the corrections are made through proof reading is done, the transcript is signed by the reporter which is then treated as final. This final transcript is then processed and sent out in the preferred by the client. It can be print or electronic.
