  1. Booting information for a CN50 Throughout this slide show there will be hyperlinks (highlighted in blue) follow the hyperlinks to navigate to the specified Topic or Figure. Hyperlinks will only work when being viewed in a slide show.

  2. Booting • Warm Booting • Cold Booting • Clean Booting

  3. A warm boot may necessary to correct conditions where an application stops responding to the system. Warm Booting To warm boot the CN50 • Go to Start (FIG 1) • Go to Programs (FIG 2) • Go to Shut Down (FIG 3) The CN50 systematically shuts down. The scanner goes through the initialization process and restarts. FIG 1 FIG 2 FIG 3

  4. To cold boot your CN50: Remove the battery and wait 30 seconds. Reinsert the battery and press the power button (FIG 4) (Cold booting the CN50 does not guarantee that information will be saved, so transactional data may be lost during the reset. All other data is preserved.) In some cases where the scanner completely stops responding, it may be necessary to perform a cold boot. Because cold booting may result in data loss, only use this method if all other recovery methods have failed. Cold Booting Power button FIG 4

  5. The clean boot process erases the CN50 memory., including all applications and data files in the object store. To preserve applications through a clean boot, store them in the flash file store. To clean boot the CN50: Remove the battery Reinsert the battery Press the power button Immediately after, you need to simultaneously press and hold down (≤) and (≥) until the boot configuration menu appears on the screen. Then press (2) to select Force Cold Boot, and then press (0) to Continue with the Boot. The CN50 will execute the clean boot. This process will take a few minutes. When prompted, tap the screen to set up the CN50. (The first time this comes up the scanner will usually reboot itself.) Make sure that you set the correct time/date before trying to open ACI Warehouse manager. If the CN50 does not warm or cold boot, it may be necessary to perform a clean boot. When a clean boot in performed on the CN50, it only loads files and applications that are absolutely required by the operating system. Perform a clean boot to get the CN50 up and running so that you can run diagnostic tests to troubleshoot the normal boot process. Clean Booting the CN50 (<) (>) Power Button
