  4. Comparatives • The comparatives is formed with either –er or more and than. In the comparative, -er is used with short adjectives such as tall, and more is used with longer adjectives such as beautiful. TOEFL-1

  5. Comparatives Examples: Bob is taller than Ron. Sally is more beautiful than Sharon. TOEFL-1

  6. Superlatives The superlatives is formed with the, either –est or most, and sometimes in ,of, or a that-clause. In the superlative, -est is used with short adjectives such as short, and most is used with longer adjectives such as beautiful. TOEFL-1

  7. Superlatives Example: • Santo is the shortest man in this room. • Fanny is the most beautiful of all the women at the party. TOEFL-1

  9. The uses of Comparatives and Superlatives • The Comparative is used to compare two equal things • The Superlative is used to show which one of many is in some way the most outstanding TOEFL-1
