  2. The HIV-1 virus, a well-studied human disease, is the basis for the prototype LV vector system.

  3. Four-plasmid system Different generations of LV vector system were developed largely in safety considerations because of the potential dangers of HIV-1 infection in humans. The third generation is currently widely used for clinical and R&D purposes.

  4. Three-plasmid system Only three plasmids were required to implement rev-independent vector technology in the EIAV system. These plasmids are the helper plasmids that code for the gag-pol, env functions, and the TV plasmid.
