How does Word Processing impact us? • At Home • Create professional looking documents • Do work that used to be done at a print shop • Let’s everyone easily communicate in writing • At School • New types of classes offered • Saves time for students, corrects easily • Easier for teachers to read? • At Work • More professional results • More responsibility for workers • Documents generated ‘in-house’

What does a Database mean to us? • At Home • Easy to sort our information • Stores information in a central location • Allows public to generate mass mailings • At School • New class instruction necessary • School personnel can mail from ‘in-house’ • Student information easier to track • At Work • Businesses can build own database easily • Track marketing information • Can be used by many people at the same time, so saves time and money for businesses

  6. SPREADSHEETS • So, What is a Spreadsheet? • Let’s LOOK IT UP! • We can say….. • A Spreadsheet is rectangular grid of information, usually financial info.

What does that mean to us? • At Home • Everyone can be a bookkeeper • Easy to track expenses • Still another household chore that can be computerized • At School • New classes to take • Allows students to present in a different format • Appeals to visual learners • At Work • Easier for the company bookkeeper to track finances • Multiple user friendly • Work can be done in house, instead of by outside accountants

How does the Internet impact us? • At Home • Research online • Stay in touch with others • Can be a risk of online predators • At School • Take classes or earn degrees online • Students have access to more information • Teachers have more resources • At Work • Encourages global economy • Employers must be more vigilant • Workers have more resources at their fingertips

What’s it mean to us? • At Home • Keeps us in touch • Opens us up to spamming and/or phishing • Faster response time than regular mail • At School • Teacher/parent contact fast • Allows for cooler class projects • Distribution lists let administration quickly give out information, and saves paper • At Work • Saves time • Saves money and paper • New area of employee accountability, with bosses monitoring emails sent/received
