  2. Project Background Designed to • Provide avenue for students to showcase technical capability • Enable students to experience the steps needed to deliver a product to market • Help develop the “soft” skills involved with technical problems

  3. 2012 Challenge Develop the next great consumer product that improves the lives of Asian consumers or solves a problem unique to the Asian environment.

  4. Project Requirements • Report • Product background • Technical aspects • Business model: Commercial/marketing/distribution plans • Estimated cost to produce • Prototype • 5 min “Elevator Pitch” • Poster Presentation

  5. Team Development • Each Team Must Contain: • 2-6 Students • Students must be current SASE members • Must attend chapter’s home school • 1-2 Mentors • Can be from academia or working professional

  6. Project Benefits • Showcase technical capabilities • Experience product development cycle • Interact with professionals in different areas of product development • Present and receive feedback from senior leadership in major corporations

  7. Project Rewards • Three Prizes • 1st Place: $3000 • 2nd Place: $2000 • 3rd Place: $1000

  8. Project Timeline/Logistics • Form Teams (with mentors) • Send an email with team members, mentors, and project ideas to innoservice@saseconnect.org • By Oct 10 to be showcased in Natl Conference • Final Reports (Mid-March ‘13 Date TBD) • Due Prior to the NE regional conference • 5min Elevator Pitch (Mid-March TBD) • Presented at the NE regional conference

  9. Project Timeline/Logistics • Winners will be announced that the NE Regional Conference • Judging Criteria will be shared at a date closer to the conference • Teams will be judged on overall technical merit as represented in the final report and elevator pitch, as well as communication and style

  10. Prototype Prototype should: • Represent key features of product accurately • Reflect what the product would look like • Have sufficient durability to be handled Prototype does NOT: • Need to be perfect • Have extra features that are not necessary to core performance.

  11. Prototype Funding • Teams will receive $250 dollars to develop their prototypes • Funds will be distributed to the chapter president • Teams may use any available resources to develop their prototype

  12. Chapter Next Steps • Establish Teams!! • 2-6 Students/Team • Identify 1-2 Mentors • Register Your Team • saseconnect.org/innoservice • Prepare Abstracts for Natl Conference • Brief description of idea & execution plan • Attend National Conference in Baltimore • Optional!! 10/11-10/13
