  1. Study skills: Effective ways to study for French • Repeat words out loud in French and English a number of times. Write words… over and over and over… • Make flashcards • English on front; French on back • Take a “practice quiz” to find out what you know and what you don’t know. • Draw a picture that you associate with the word or imagine an image with the word. • Make up a song about the words.

  2. Study skills: Effective ways to study for French Folded sheet method: • Take a sheet of looseleaf paper. • Fold the paper lengthwise like you would fold a fan. (Each fold should be a little more than an inch wide. You will have 5 or 6 columns. • In the first column, using your vocabulary lists, write the first 5 words in French. • In the 2nd column, write the meaning of those 5 words in English. • Fold over the 1st column so you can’t see the words. Try filling in the 3rd column with the French words without looking at your notes. • Check your answers and fill in any missing words. Mark any words that you were not able to figure out. • Fold over the first two columns so that you only see the French words. Fill in the English meaning. Again, mark any words that you were not able to figure out. • Continue doing this until you can effectively define all words, French to Engish and English to French. • Move on to the next 5 words and repeat.
