  2. Earth is very unique in that we have an atmosphere supporting layers of ionized gases.

  3. Radiation varies hourly, seasonally, geographically between earth and sun. Affected by 11-year sunspot cycles. (Also long term sunspots averages over 110 year cycles.)

  4. Propagation around the earth may be by ground, line of sight, sky wave, or ducting.

  5. Gray line propagation is the transition region between daylight and darkness. Long path propagation is propagation across the longer arc of the great circle between two stations, particularly in darkness; vs. short path propagation.
