  6. “Deacons: The Men Who Serve” • The apostles gave the qualifications: • They were to choose men: • full of the Holy Spirit • full of wisdom. • These are men who live their lives under the control & full influence of God’s Spirit.

  7. “Deacons: The Men Who Serve” • The Greatness of Jesus’ Humility (John 13:1-5). • In John 13, leading up to the crucifixion, Jesus demonstrates the full extent of his love. 4 … he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. (John 13:4)

  8. “Deacons: The Men Who Serve” 5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. (John 13:5)

  9. “Deacons: The Men Who Serve” • Jesus was concerned about eternal issues and they were obsessed with rank, position, protocol and authority. • By washing grimy, stinky feet He has forever removed any stigma that men associate with service.

  10. “Deacons: The Men Who Serve” • Titles reveal expectations! • If you are thinking of becoming a deacon, you need to ask yourself four questions: • Have I visualized what God wants me to do?
