  1. Welcome Parents World Studies I, College Prep English 9 Barbara Tollison

  2. San Marcos High School Vision • In order to reach our school-wide goal of producing valuable, problem-solving citizens for the future, San Marcos High School has Expected School-wide Learning Results (ESLR’s) imbedded into each course. • For this class, participation in group activities, class preparedness, citizenship and cooperation are all assessed through a weekly ESLR grade of 10 points. Together, the ESLR grade makes up 10% of each student’s grade in the class.

  3. Citizens, Communicators and Problem Solvers • Being a good citizen in a class includes prompt and regular attendance, readiness to learn at all times, and respectful attention given to teachers and classmates. • All students are expected to participate orally at appropriate times in the class. This may include reading aloud, group activities, and/or oral presentations for the class. • Most of our curriculum includes rigorous problem-solving, expected of all students. This may include reading about, writing about, or speaking about current issues in order to examine all opinions before formulating a thesis.

  4. Curriculum • San Marcos Unified School district history and English teaching staff and administrators have carefully aligned the curriculum of World Studies I to align with California State Standards. You can access all of the state standards for each grade level on the California Department of Education website. They also have released test questions from all previous California Standards Tests and California High School Exit Exams. • Each unit for College Prep English 9 is designed to align with major ideas presented in the World Studies I history class. Two proficiency essays and one research project each year is assigned and graded jointly.

  5. Classic World Literature as our Class Novels
