  2. Reproductive System • Function: production of offspring • Invertebrates: sexual reproduction through both external and internal fertilization. Asexual reproduction when conditions are favorable • Vertebrates: Sexual reproduction can occur through external and internal fertilization. Describe the difference between asexual and sexual reproduction? Which type of reproduction will result in the offspring having different DNA from the parent?

  3. Human Male Reproductive System • Major Organs: • Composed of prostate gland, penis, testes, scrotum, and vas deferens • Testes produce sperm and male sex hormones • Ducts and glands deliver sperm to the female reproductive tract

  4. Human Female Reproductive System • Major organs: • Composed of mammary glands, ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, and vagina • Ovaries produce eggs and female sex hormones • Remaining structures serve as sites for fertilization and development of the fetus • Mammary glands produce milk to nourish the newborn
