Parts of Speech. By Leigh and Rachel. Nouns/Pronouns. A noun is a person, place, or thing. Ex. Chase likes a certain caped crusader . A pronoun takes the place of a noun. Ex. He likes Batman. Adjectives. An adjective is a word that modifies or describes a noun or pronoun.

  2. Nouns/Pronouns • A noun is a person, place, or thing. • Ex. Chase likes a certain caped crusader. • A pronoun takes the place of a noun. • Ex. He likes Batman.

  3. Adjectives • An adjective is a word that modifies or describes a noun or pronoun. • Ex. Gotham is dark and gloomy.

  4. Verbs and Adverbs • A verb is an action or doing word. • Ex. He swooped around the city. • An adverb modifies a verb. • Ex. He swooped stealthily around the city.

  5. Conjunctions • Conjunctions are words that connect two independent clausestogether. • Ex. DC comics has Batman, but Marvel has Iron Man.

  6. Prepositions • Often have to do with location or something temporary. They work with nouns/pronouns to modify verbs, other nouns/pronouns, and adjectives. • Ex of Location: Spiderman climbed up the building. • Ex of Temporal Cases: Spiderman does fine until his webs run out in midair.
