  1. U.S. MILITARY SERVICE BRANCHES

  2. The United States military offers excellent opportunities for interesting careers, education and a host of valuable veterans’ benefits.

  3. Whether you serve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard, you’ll become eligible for opportunities and benefits that will last through your military service years and beyond retirement.

  4. Each branch of the service offers its own unique training and career opportunities.

  5. ARMY

  6. Defending and serving the nation by land, sea and air, the Army was founded in 1775, making it the oldest branch of the U.S. military.

  7. The Army is composed of a number of groups. Elite branches including Special Forces and the Army Rangers receive advanced training for specialized combat situations.

  8. Army personnel are stationed domestically, in combat areas and in permanent bases abroad throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Length of service commitment varies with a required commitment as short as two years.

  9. In order to join the Army, you must be between 18 and 37 years old, be a U.S. citizen or resident alien, have a high school diploma or GED and pass a physical fitness exam.

  10. NAVY

  11. Although the U.S. Navy was officially founded by General George Washington as the American Revolution began in 1775, today’s standing Navy actually came into being in 1794 in response to increasing international conflicts.

  12. With over 300,000 personnel, the Navy operates at sea, on land and in the air. With 100 international ports worldwide, the Navy encompasses special groups including the SEALS and Navy Divers.

  13. Sailors usually serve four years aboard one of the Navy’s deployable surface vessels or submarines, although shorter deployment times may be available.

  14. AIR FORCE

  15. Although the U.S. Navy was officially founded by General George Washington as the American Revolution began in 1775, today’s standing Navy actually came into being in 1794 in response to increasing international conflicts.

  16. Newest branch of the U.S. military, the Air Force was once an offshoot of the Army, only gaining status as a stand- alone military branch in 1947 following World War II.

  17. With more than 300,000 troops, the Air Force protects U.S. airspace and cyberspace. U.S.A.F. careers include hands-on training for:  Pilots  Flight crew  Mechanics  Air traffic controllers  Electronics technicians  Medical staff

  18. MARINES

  19. The Marine Corps is usually the first force on the ground in conflict areas.

  20. The Corps was founded in 1775 and consists of an elite group of men and women bound by a strict code exemplifying honor, courage and commitment both on and off the battlefield.

  21. Stationed around the globe for quick deployment to troubled areas, the Marine Corps currently has more than 180,000 troops serving commitments of between three and five years of service.

  22. COAST GUARD

  23. Originally formed from a combination of several services, the Coast Guard today is operated as part of the Department of Homeland Security in peacetime and as a part of the Navy during times of conflict.

  24. The Coast Guard can also operate by special presidential order. This branch of the military service is responsible for protecting …
