Kentucky Virtual High School What does a student need in order to take a KVHS course? • Access to a computer with internet access (including weekends, days when school is not in session, etc.) • Time management skills and time to study • A facilitator available at the local school to serve as the liaison between the student and KVHS
Kentucky Virtual High School KVHS offers World Language courses including: • Spanish I, II, III and AP Spanish Language • French I, II, III and AP French Language • German I, II, III (through KET) and AP German Language • Latin I, II, III,IV (through KET) • Mandarin Chinese I, II KVHS offers credit recovery options for students
Kentucky Virtual High School Online Professional Development • Began in 2000 to support K-12 virtual teachers • Has trained over 6,000 KY educators & SBDM parents • Has trained online facilitators • Has trained online course designers • Has created over 30 PD courses
Kentucky Virtual High School Online Communities of Practice Began in 2000 to support KYVS faculty • Have served over 10,000 KY educators • Currently 40 active communities have over 3,300 participants
Kentucky Virtual High School • KVHS offers course content via a resource repository for use by teachers for blended learning opportunities • Course content available through the resource repository includes Algebra, English, US History, and more (see Blended Learning Fact Sheet available online at www.kyvs.org.
Kentucky Virtual High School • KVHS can provide Blackboard course shells to teachers to utilize in blended learning opportunities • KVHS can provide Blackboard course shells to districts to utilize for online learning communities, online professional development, or other purposes
