Join us for a presentation on the SMART CARD initiative by the Department of Rural Development. The objective is to streamline wage payments under NREGS and enhance service delivery through the use of Smart Cards in various schemes. We aim to expand to Karimnagar and Warangal by December 2007. The roadmap includes extending to Chittoor and Medak districts and eventually covering the entire state by August 2008. Key milestones and terms of the project will be discussed.

Objectives • To begin with payment of wages under NREGS and Social Security pensions through Smart Cards. • Other schemes including SHG transactions subsequently. • Upscale to two districts – Karimnagar and Warangal by December, 2007. • To be takenup Chittoor and Medak districts also. • Upscale to entire state by August, 2008.
Time frame For upscaling to two districts: • Selection of banks - 12.09.2007. • Starting of enrolment - 24.09.2007. • Delivery of cards by - 15.11.2007. • Commencing service delivery - 01.12.2007.
Terms • Government will take up thirty party evaluation of pilot and come up with • Standardised technology solutions. • Set of guidelines for the targeted processes • Security standards in consonance with the IT Act. • Investment on smart card and terminals to be made by banks. • 2% service charges to be borne by Government.
