  1. E-Rate Q&A Panel Ryan Claringbole (Monona), Trish Frankland (Lodi), Lindsey Ganz (Poynette), Margie Navarre-Saafe (Madison)

  2. E-rate 2019/2020 (Heidi O) • 2019/2020 is the last year in a 5-year E-rate grant cycle. • Libraries may participate in this grant cycle and still receive E-rate funding for all eligible items. We do not yet know if E-rate will continue and/or if the same amount of funding will be available to public libraries. • SCLS will need to know which libraries will be participating by January 2, 2019. • E-rate can be used to offset the cost of wireless access points.

  3. CIPA Compliance Process (Panel) • CIPA Compliance includes developing an Internet Safety Policy, implementing a Technology Protection Measure (filtering) and holding a public notice meeting or hearing. • Describe the process your library went through and any problems you had with any of these elements.

  4. Administrative Tasks (Panel) • During the first year, the library must complete a Memorandum of Understanding with SCLS, generate a letter of agency to submit to SCLS, fill out a form authorizing SCLS to file on its behalf (479), create an administrative account with the online E-rate portal and check that the info for the library is correct. SCLS provides a checklist for these tasks. • Each subsequent year the library must submit a new letter of agency, fill out a new form 479 and check the information for their library. • Libraries must also retain records of their CIPA compliance process for at least 10 years. SCLS maintenance records of the E-rate application process on behalf of the libraries. • Did you find that these administrative tasks were and are manageable and worth the effort based on the benefits received for the library?

  5. Filtering Software (Panel) • SCLS currently uses the iBoss filtering application. It is set up to allow a patron to override a blocked site based on user authentication which verifies age against Koha. • Please describe what it is like to work with the filtering software in the library? • Have you had any problems with the filtering software?
