  3. What is a conference Organized meeting for a common goal Facility to display one’s research Career exposition for job-seekers Intellectual meeting (day) Social gathering (night) NOT a vacation!
  4. Why attend a conference Showcase your current research Learn new technology in your area Networking Collaboration(s) Funding Employment Friendship
  5. Before arrival Register early (save money) Create an agenda Aim for invited presentations Make extra copies of presentation “Anything can happen, be prepared” Confirm: Transportation Dates of travel Accommodation
  6. Appropriate behavior Be punctual! To any event Wear proper attire If you have to think do not wear it Do not shy away from questions Take daily notes of all presentations Talk to as many people as possible We all represent UGA
  7. Pitfalls Improper attire NOT vacation time Forget relevant meetings & presentations Avoid NOT making contacts NOT asking questions Accommodation far from conference
