  2. Who were the bushranger? • Bushrangers were Australian men, who during the 18th and 19th centuries, robbed and attacked carriages, banks, pubs and homesteads. • There were many types of bushrangers. Some of them were ‘gentlemen of the bush’ and others were killers.

  3. Where did they live? • Most bushrangers lived rough, in the bush in New south Wales and victoria. • They would sometimes live with friends or family, or sometimes in barns and outhouses

  4. How did bushrangers survive? • Some of them stole previsions owned by the settlers in outlying areas, helping themselves freely to salted foods. • Also others hunted wild rabbits and native animals.

  5. What type of clothing did bushrangers wear? • During the Australian gold rush period bushrangers wore the typical dress of the day. • That is moleskin, cord material trousers, shirts with long sleeves and collars • Sometimes a the wore waistcoat over the top. • They often wore a cravat on neckerchief under the collar like a tie and a straw because it was made locally from the plaited palm leaf

  6. What did bushranger do? • Bushrangers living off the land and being supported by or stealing form free settlers. • A bushranger was an outlaw from Australia’s colonial and gold rush times. • In the beginning, the first bushrangers were escaped convict, but not survive the conditions of the bush.
