  3. Bodily Injury Liability Coverage • To protect yourself against financial loss (including the cost of your legal defense) • You can buy Bodily Injury Liability Coverage • When you are legally responsible for injuring other people in an automobile accident

  4. Property Damage Liability Coverage • Pays for damage you caused to another person’s property • It does not cover damages to your car

  5. Medical Payments Coverage • Pays medical and funeral expenses for you, your family members, and other passengers in your car because of injuries sustained in an accident • NO MATTER who caused the accident

  6. Uninsured/Underinsured • Pays medical and damage expenses for you and your passengers caused by a driver without insurance or too little insurance to cover the loss • It does NOT cover the other driver

  7. Comprehensive Coverage • Pays for damage to your car caused by soething other than a collision. • For example, it covers damage caused by earthquakes, fire, wind, hail, and floods OR if your car is lost or stolen • May EXCLUDE things that are valuable and easy to steal: MP3 (You may want to purchase riders)

  8. Collision Coverage • Pays for damage to your car caused by colliding with another car or object such as a tree or fire huydrant • Next to liability, this protection is likely to be the most expensive portion of an automobile policy.

  9. DEDUCTIBLE • Comprehensive and Collision carry a deductable. • An amount you pay before the insurance company pays anything. • Suppose collision damage to your car costs $1,200 to fix, your deductible is $500. • You pay $500 • Insurance pays the remaining $700
