FOSTERING COOPERATION BETWEEN UNIVERSITIES IN THE AMERICAS Created in 1979 in Quebec City, the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE) is an international university association that promotes cooperation between member institutions and fosters the development of higher education in the Americas and the Caribbean.

COLLEGEOF THE AMERICAS • Officially created in 1997, the COLAM has set the following objectives: • Contribute to the strengthening of democracy; • Promote intercultural understanding; • Improve the quality and the relevance of university programs in fields of continental interest; • Encourage research on continental integration; • Support cooperation between universities, civil society and public sector.

  7. INTER-AMERICAN TRAINING NETWORKS Universities linked within networks work together to develop academic, thematic and cross-disciplinary programs, offered to graduate students, private and public sector staff, and general population, encouraging the use of NICT.

TEACHER’S TRAINING NETWORK Mandate • To consolidate university networks in order to offer programs adapted to the specific needs of the Hemispheric Project on Teacher Training • To workwith member countries of the OAS to reach the objectives established in the Action Plans of the Summits, as well as in the Hemispheric Project on Teacher Training, for the development and offering of training and professional programs • To support the Inter-American Commission for Education in the monitoring of the Conferences of Ministers of Education and their Action Plans, as well as to support hemispheric projects • To put togethera guide of the content of programs for teacher training and professional development, carried out by institutions of higher education of the hemisphere • To offertraining and teacher development strategies to ministries of education and institutions of higher education, using Distance Education and Information Technologies • To support the Inter-American Commission for Education in the monitoring of the Hemispheric Project in the five regions: North America, Central America, the Caribbean, Mercosur, and the Andean Countries

Trinidad and Tobago 2005 and 2006. 40 participants

Ministry of Public Education of El Salvador, participation at the First Central American Meeting to define a model for initial teacher training. Delivery of regional online courses with OAS. • Caribbean Ministry of Education of Trinidad & Tobago. Integrating IT in the curriculum, with Thompson Rivers University 2005, 2006
