Course Planning  Consult Course Calendar for the year you declared your major for official program requirements (check under the Archives tab if needed)  Degree works is a good tool, but can have errors. The Course Calendar is the final word.  If the program requirements change while you are in program, you have the option to chose the new program requirements  Effective May 1 new program requirements for the BA and BSc 4 YR and Honours will come into effect – one less 300 level lab requirement.  Consult with an academic advisor in the Arts and Science Advising Office if you wish to formally chose the new program requirements  Be sure to speak with an academic advisor if you have any questions about your program requirements.   4. Pre-Requisites for Upper Year Courses  Plan ahead on the upper year courses you would like to take and ensure you have the appropriate pre-requisites (listed in Course Calendar)  The Dept has a strict policy against pre-requisite over- rides. You will NOT be granted permission to take an upper year course without the appropriate pre- requisite.

Pre-Requisites for Upper Year Courses  Psy 233 (Statistics I) is a required pre-requisite for Psy 235 (Research Methods)  Psy 233 (Statistics I) and Psy 235 (Research Methods) are required pre-requisites for advancing to the 300 level Group 1A or Group 2A courses.  Psy 234 (Statistics II) and the corresponding Group A course are required pre- requisites for advancing to the 300 level Group 1B or Group 2B courses.  Scheduling  Psy 233 is only guaranteed to be offered in Term 1  Psy 234 and Psy 235 are only guaranteed to be offered in Term 2  4 YR and Honours students should take Psy 234 and Psy 235 simultaneously to stay on program track

Statistic Course Equivalents  Students who have taken non-Psychology statistics courses may not be able to receive credit for Psy 233 and/or Psy 234.  Refer to the College policy for the specific regulations: https://programs.usask.ca/arts-and-science/policies.php#StatisticsCourseRegulations  Note that if you have taken a non-Psychology equivalent statistic course it will NOT count toward your major requirements  Fulfils your statistics pre-reqs, but counts towards your elective requirements  You will need to take additional PSY credit units to meet major requirements

  7. Registering  ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE OFFICIALLY DECLARED YOUR MAJOR PRIOR TO REGISTRATION!  Enrolment is limited in upper-year Psychology courses, so be sure to register as soon as you are able. If you do not register within your protected registration window (below), there is no guarantee you will be able to enroll in classes you need to stay on program track.  Registering in PSY 400 level courses for Fall 2023  First Week of Registration: Registration in 400 level seminar courses will be restricted to students in the Honours program (Psy & HLST)  Second Week of Registration: Registration in 400 level seminar courses will be restricted to students in the 4 YR and Honours program (Psy & HLST)  Third Week of Registration: Registration in 400 level seminar courses open to all with the appropriate pre-requisites.

  8. Registering  The Dept has a strict policy against enrolment limit over-rides. You will NOT be granted permission to register in a course that is at its enrolment limit.  If a class is full, keep monitoring enrolment, as spaces periodically open up prior to the start of session or even the first few days after the session starts.

  9. Honours Degrees The Psychology BA and BSc Honours degree programs were designed for students who are interested in pursuing graduate or professional training in psychology.  Eligibility for Honours Program   Completed at least 60 credit units (normally students apply at the end of their third year of study)  70% average in non-Psy courses; 80% average in Psy courses  Completed one Psy 300 level A course and completed (or be currently enrolled in) one Psy 300 level B course  Secured an honours supervisor The deadline to apply is May 31st. Need to complete: (1) College Honours Application available from the Undergraduate Student Office, College of Arts and Science; (2) Departmental Form available at https://artsandscience.usask.ca/psychology/undergraduates/welcome.php#Psychology HonoursProgram 

  10. Program Q & A Sessions  The Department will be holding two program-related Question & Answer sessions for Psychology majors  Thursday March 16 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm; Arts 153  Monday March 20 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm; Arts 153  These will not be formal individual advising sessions, but please come if you have questions about the following:  Degree options in Psychology  Program requirements  The Honours program  Graduate studies in Psychology  And anything else you would like to discuss!  A recorded session will be available on the department website
