  2. Romanticism • Both short stories were written in the XIX century. • During this period, the French Revolution was ending which led to the confirmation of individual rights and liberty. Romanticism was born

  3. Main genre during Romanticism • Fantasy the most important genre. • Everything was related not only to the rational, but also to the irrational. • Both short stories belong to the subgenre of horror. • They are classified as ghost stories.

  4. The Horla, or Modern Ghosts • Produced as a diary and written in the first person perspective. • The main characterbecomes the object the invisible being becomes the subject. • The author uses “intermittent” the reader can see the reality.

  5. The Yellow Wallpaper • Written as a journal entries by a woman who suffers nervous depression. • The author, similar to the main character, suffered depression and lived a domestic life.
