California State University ►Number of Campuses ● 23 CSU campuses in California ►NON-IMPACTED CSU’s ●Bakersfield, Maritime, Stanislaus, Channel Islands, Humboldt, DH, SF ►IMPACTED IN ALL PROGRAMS ● Fresno, Fullerton, LB, SD, SJ, SLO ►Required Entrance Exam-ACT or SAT ►Take by December 2018!ility Index

Schools with Admissions Standards above the CSU minimum Some campuses in the CSU use higher standards than the minimum admission eligibility standards because of the number of qualified students who apply to those campuses during the initial application filing period. Check the CSU Mentor website for impacted campuses & majors ALL of you should apply to CSU Pomona and CSU San Bernardino , as they are the local admission & serving institutions for CVUSD students….AND you have priority admission over students from other counties/areas! THE MINIMUM CSU eligibility index of NON-IMPACTED campuses is: 2950 (SAT) or694 (ACT) [GPA x 800 + SAT score =___ or GPA x 200 + (10 x ACT score) = ___ ]

University of California ►Number of Campuses ● 9 campuses in California ►Minimum GPA ● 3.0 GPA *Average GPA of incoming freshman: 3.82 ►Required Entrance Exam- ACT or SAT must be taken by December 2018! ►Other requirements ● Personal Statement & 15 minimum “a-g” classes SOME majors will require SAT II (Subject Tests) ►UC Berkeley ● Now may ask for letter(s) of recommendation!

UC & CSU Application process ► Application filing period: UC :August 1st - November 30th CSU: October 1st-November 30th ► Application Deadline: November 30th ► Application fee waiver: Up to 4 campuses for those who qualify (Both the application and fee wavier form are available directly on the application when you apply online) UC: www.ucop.edu CSU: www2.calstate.edu/apply www.csumentor.edu Source: www.californiacolleges.edu 2009

Private Colleges ►Number of Campuses ● Large variety of colleges all over U.S. Apply from November to February check dates online ASAP!! ►Degrees Offered ● Bachelors, Masters, limited Doctoral degrees ►Minimum GPA ● Will vary ►Required Entrance Exam-ACT or SAT *some will require SAT Subject Exams as well*Index ►Other requirements ● Typically follows “a-g” course sequence, personal statement, letters of recommendation, resume

  9. DO’S & DON’TS ON COLLEGE APPLICATIONS DON’T: • “Guess” on information (ie. Income, family size, courses, grad date) • List courses you do NOT plan to take • List inaccurate courses or put them in the wrong category (always refer to your transcript) • Write the WRONG college name on your personal statement/scholarship app! • Don’t forget to send your AP & SAT/ACT official score report • Don’t forget to PRINT your application summary & confirmation DO: • Senior courses should read: First semester- In Progress Second semester- Planned • List ALL high schools attended & a-g courses exactly how they appear on your transcript • Enter your legal name as listed on your social security card • Enter your CSSID (on your transcript) • Fill out your senior profile • CALL each campus to have them “manually review” your application IF you are meeting subject requirement via AP & validation

  10. APPLICATION WORKSHOPS Counselors are available to assist with applications in the Career Center during lunch Tuesdays & Thursdays starting October 16th - November 29th Cal Poly ETS Program offering College Application Workshop on: October 17, 2018 @ 5:30pm DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!

  11. ADMISSIONS TESTING All 4 year colleges require admissions tests. Testing for Seniors must be completed NO LATER THAN December 2018! Be sure to SEND TEST SCORES to colleges when signing up this year!  USE THE CODES ONLINE: CSU Mentor – 3594  NCAA – 9999 For UC’s, once you send to one, they ALL get your scores COLLEGES WILL ALWAYS USE HIGHEST SCORES!!

  12. SAT/ACT Don Lugo is offering SAT test for FREE!! Wednesday, October 10, 2018 Will be held here at Don Lugo You may also sign up for additional Saturday test dates for the SAT or ACT If you qualify for free/reduced lunch see your Counselor for a fee waiver! Information available at : www.collegeboard.com or www.actstudent.org

California community colleges ►Number of Campuses ● 112 campuses in California ►Degrees Offered ● Associate Degrees, Certificates of Achievement, Occupational Skills Certificates (i.e. Welding, CNA) ►Minimum GPA ● None, but must have high school diploma or GED OR 18 yrs of age ►Required Entrance Exam(s) ● None, but assessment tests in English & Math are required for placement ►Eligibility Index ►Application Period: ● Usually in the Spring of 2019

WHY YOU SHOULD ALSO APPLY TO CC… • You & your family will be unable to afford it based on your financial aid package • You end up getting a D/F grade second semester!  • It’s your second chance for your first choice institution. • You are not quite ready to commit to a 4-yr college/university • Other family/personal matter comes up • ALWAYS HAVE A BACK UP PLAN! Did you know… UC offers PRIORITY admission to ALL UC-eligible CCC transfer students (TAG Program)

FINANCIAL AID FAFSA: (FREE Application for Federal Student Aid) Apply online at: www.fafsa.gov For undocumented students who are AB 540 eligible, apply at: www.CalDreamAct.org Applies to Federal/State student aid, grants, Work Study, scholarships, and student loans FSA ID: Student & Parent must both have an FSA ID in order to submit application electronically; recommended to apply BEFORE starting FAFSA, apply at: https://fsaid.ed.gov Filing period is: October 2018 to March 2, 2019

SCHOLARSHIPS Get scholarship info: www.fastweb.com www.college-scholarships.com -Read or listen to the BULLETIN -Come check out the scholarship binder in the Counseling Office or on our counseling page: www.donlugo.com\counseling -Parent’s work, stores, fast food, etc. MOST SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES are December to May

  19. Things to remember: BEWARE OF SCAMS! Never, ever PAY for scholarship assistance – it’s all available for free! Teacher /Counselor Recommendations: ask EARLY & provide a Senior Profile (same letter can be modified for colleges!)

Senior Checklist ►Take the SAT/ SAT II / ACT:register for an upcoming test date (last date for UC/CSU campuses is December 2018, except SDSU & San Luis Obispo, they accept only up to November 2018) SAT: www.collegeboard.org ACT: www.actstudent.org ► August-November:Apply to UC & CSU campuses ► October-March: Apply for financial aid (www.fafsa.ed.gov) The deadline is March 2nd November 30th:Application deadline for CSU and UC!! ► January 3rd: Deadline to submit your SAT/ACT scores to CSU

  21. ►January- February: Submit 7th semester transcripts (with Fall grades posted) IF requested by your college(s) ►February- March: Apply to Community College & complete assessment and orientation ► March-May: Apply for housing ►May 1st : Deadline to submit Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) ► June 30th: Deadline to submit your FINAL transcripts to college of choice ► Attend orientations and info sessions- some campuses require you to attend or your admission can be revoked *** ONGOING*** --CHECK YOUR EMAILS, COLLEGE PORTALS! --MAINTAIN GRADES OF C’S OR HIGHER! --APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!
