  1. Chapter 1 Study Guide Answer the following questions on binder paperfollowing the format shown in class. • What do you need to give good directions? • What is the difference between distance and displacement? • What are the equations for calculating average speed? • What is the most common units for speed? • Solve: Suppose you are walking home after school. The distance from school to your home is five kilometers. On foot, you can get home in 25 minutes. However, if you rode a bicycle, you could get home in 10 minutes. a. What is your average speed while walking? b. What is your average speed while bicycling? c. How much faster you travel on your bicycle? • Solve: The airplane refuels in St. Louis and continues on to Boston. It travels at an average speed of 610 km/h. If the trip takes 2.75 hours, what is the flight distance between St. Louis and Boston • Use different colors to graph the motion of 1. An object at rest; 2. An object speeding up; 3. An object slowing down; 4. An object at constant speed. • How is velocity different than speed? Give examples • What are the 3 ways that acceleration occurs (hint: velocity changes)? • Create a T-chart, listing all the vocabulary words that are vectors vs. scalar.
