  3. What is stress? • “Fight or flight” response, increase heart rate, blood pressure and hormonal response • Not all stress is bad!

  5. Managing your stress • Learn what causes you stress (your stressors) • Find ways to reduce those stressors • Get organized, say no to some commitments, speak up • Find ways to cope with stress that you have

  6. Reduction Strategies • Find a healthy way to cope with your stress • Exercise • Keep a journal or talk with someone • Find an enjoyable activity to do, hobby • Relaxation techniques, yoga, massages • Listen to music • Laughter

  7. Summary • Stress for too long or too often can cause health complications, especially with a pre-existing problem, example high blood pressure. • Learn and understand your stressors. • Find ways to reduce the stressors you encounter. • Find a healthy coping strategy that works for you.

  8. Activity • Question: Optimal performance comes at what level of stress? Hint: slide number 3. • Activity: Think about the stressors in your life. Identify 5 stressors, whether big or small and ways to cope with those stressors.
