  2. Meristematic Cells • Plants have meristematic cells which are plant stem cells. • They are found at the tips of roots and branches as well as in the stem (see fig.2.4 on p.59) • Meristematic cells produce specialized cells.

Plant Tissues • 3 types of tissues in plants • Dermal tissue • Forms the outer covering of plants • Offers protection and controls the exchange of water and gases between the plant and the environment • Ground Tissue • Several functions such as photosynthesis or support for plant body • Vascular Tissue • Provides physical support • Transports sap

  4. Photosynthesis • Occurs in the chloroplast • Chlorophyll is a green molecule that absorbs light energy Carbon dioxide + water + light energy  glucose + oxygen
