  3. Main features of agricultural statistics in Republic of Macedonia • The agricultural statistics in the State Statistical Office (SSO) are being conducting since 1945; • (SSO) is responsible for most of the agricultural statistics in the country. Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy is in charge of calculation of Farm Accountancy Network (FADN), establishment and maintenance of an administrative farm register, food safety, irrigation; • SSO carries out:29 surveys of which 22 are annual, 2 quarterly, 5 monthly; • The Agricultural Census was conducted in 2007 meeting the international requirements; • The most detailed agricultural statistics / census data are available on the web site of the SSO in a form of a data-ware house; • Statistical farm register is in the process of establishing; • National law on agricultural and rural development was adopted in 2007;

  4. Sector-Wide indicators for agriculture and rural development From the list of indicators: - 9 indicators could be calculated. Data are available from different sources of data; - 5 indicators could not be calculate in short term period of time; Country status regarding the menu of indicators for development of agricultural and rural statistics

  5. Indicators for subsectors of agricultural and rural development From the list of indicators: -5 indicators could be calculated. Data are available from different sources of data with limited coverage for 2 indicators; -6 indicators could not be calculated in short term period of time Country status regarding the menu of indicators for development of agricultural and rural statistics

  6. Climate change, land and environment From the list of indicators: 4 indicators could be calculated.Data are available from different sources of data with limited coverage for 1 indicator; 4 indicators could not be calculated in short-term period of time Country status regarding the menu of indicators for development of agricultural and rural statistics

  7. Agricultural and rural economy From the list of indicators: 2 indicators could be calculated. Data are available from different household surveys with limited coverage; 2 indicators could not be calculated in short-term period of time Country status regarding the menu of indicators for development of agricultural and rural statistics

  8. Core set of indicators with annual periodicity not available: -Data for fiber, cotton, lax are not available; -Data for crop specifically produced for Bio Fuel; -Aquaculture production; -Changes in land cover and use (By the Ministry of environment are followed the changes in the Corine land use); -Household income-farm and rural Core set of indicators with annual periodicity available from different sample surveys: -Data for acres harvested, yield, production,own consumption, purchase prices; -Cattle, pigs, sheep and goats; -Chickens; -Fishery Captures; -Forestry Production; -Labour& wage rates Country status regarding core set of indicators for development of agricultural and rural statistics

Core set of indicators to be provided on a periodic, but scheduled basis: -Food consumption could be provided from Household Budget Survey, annually Core set of indicators could be provided on a periodic basis: -Data for inputs (we have data from Census of agriculture, 2007 but not in quantities) -Demographics of agricultural and rural population. (Census of agriculture, 2007) Country status regarding core set of indicators for development of agricultural and rural statistics

CONCLUSIONS National capacity and availabilityof agricultural and rural statistics could be enhanced by establishing : • Integrated Data Base; • Master Sample Frame for Agriculture; • Linkage between the different sources of data; • Precise scope, coverage and periodicity of the agricultural statistics; • Better coordination between different units in the SSO in the process of planning of annual working programme; • Consultation with others producers of agricultural statistics regarding the methodological issues and preparing of new specific surveys especially in the areas: forestry,environment and climate change
