  2. NUTRIENTS AND COMPONENTS OF CHOCOLATES The nutritional content of chocolate varies according to the recipe. Generally, chocolate contains: • Protein:  needed for cell maintenance and repair. • Fat : varies, but chocolate is generally 30 to 45 per cent fat, of which about half is saturated fat. • Vitamin E : a fat-soluble vitamin essential for cell membranes. • Calcium, phosphorus and magnesium : minerals essential for strong bones and teeth. • Iron : needed to form haemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying compound in blood.

  3. NUTRIENTS AND COMPONENTS OF CHOCOLATES • Caffeine and theobromine: nervous system stimulants. • Copper : assists iron metabolism, formation of melanin (in hair and skin) and functioning of the central nervous system. • Sugars :varies, but often make up about 50 per cent. • Antioxidant phytochemicals(such as flavonoids) : cocoa beans, the main ingredient of chocolate (particularly dark chocolate), contain more than 600 plant chemicals, including antioxidants, that may protect against heart disease and cancer.

  4. DOESCHOCOLATE STRENGTHEN YOUR BRAIN? • Researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that dark chocolate contains a compound called epicatechin. This compound helps reduce brain damage in mice, who suffered strokes and also improves mice´s memories.

  5. THE IMPORTANCE OF FLAVANOIDS The cocoa found in dark chocolate contains flavanoids, that has cognitive enhancing effects. By consuming dark chocolate, students may experience some noticeable improvements in: • learning abilities • memory • mental clarity • mood.   • cardiovascular health

  6. Chocolate Helps with Math • British psychologists found that flavanoids helped people with their mental math. They concluded that they counted easier after drinking a cup of hot chocolate.

  7. EFFECT OF CAFFEINE ON ADHD CHILDREN • ADHDis one of the most common children’s mental health conditions. It involves symptoms of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity that lead to behavioral impairments. • A great deal of research has investigated the possible role of caffeine in ADHD.

  8. EFFECT OF CAFFEINE ON ADHD CHILDREN • Anecdotal evidence suggests that many individuals are already using caffeine to self-medicate ADHD in themselves or their children. Many sufferers find it has the opposite effect than it does in other people: instead of making them more active and stimulated, it actually has more of a calm-down effect, and encourages sleep. • Caffeine’s stimulating effect helps them focus and stay on task..

  9. EFFECT OF CAFFEINE ON ADHD CHILDREN • A similar outcome has been found in animals. A 2005 study of rats with hyperactivity, impulsivity, poor attention, and deficits in learning and memory found a significant improvement in test results when caffeine was administered to the rats beforehand. “These results demonstrate a selective learning deficit which can be attenuated by pre-training administration of caffeine,” say the researchers (Collingwood, 2010).

  11. HOLISTIC BENEFITS • Chocolate may prevent cancer:They use pentameter to treat cancer cells and they noticed that cells stop dividing… • Chocolate is good for your skin: (Flavonoids) • Protect women´s skin from the sun´s UV rays. • Chocolate reduces heart attacks:Prevents blood clots and reduces the risk of heart attacks. • Chocolate reduces the risk of diabetes: a study from the University of Làquila in Italy, found that eating chocolate increases insulin sensitivity, which reduces the risk of diabetes.
