  2. What is it? • The ability to reason and distinguish truth and goodness from wrong and evil. • Using your head to figure out what you honestly think is the best, most loving thing to do in a given situation We must form and inform our conscience; then follow our conscience faithfully. Informed Conscience – the decision making ability which has the proper input.

  3. Rules of Conscience: 1) Act toward others the way you would want them to act toward you (Golden Rule). 2) Respect others, and do nothing that would damage their conscience or cause them to do wrong. 3) You must never do evil in order to accomplish good.

  4. Three Types of Conscience: 1) Static or Complacent Conscience: • Have not seen positive value of personal acceptance of moral responsibility • Insists Church (authority) must spell out every obligation • Denies responsibility

  5. 2) Revolutionary Conscience: • Has misunderstood idea that one must ultimately be the judge of their own actions • No one can tell them what to do (no one has authority over them)

  6. 3) Dynamic Conscience: • Has a responsible attitude to authority (Jesus, Church, the community, etc.) • Feels responsibility to search for a life idea and to live that ideal
