  2. Goals • Ensure tank and piping are safe from corrosion • Only applies to the portion of the UST system that routinely contains product. Tank and product piping only.

  3. First step for Operator • Figure out the construction material • Tank • Piping • Figure out cathodic protection option • Fiberglass or non-metallic • Galvanic • Impressed current

  4. If non-metallic • Confirm through documentation for inspector. • That’s it.

  5. If Galvanic • Provide inspector with any previous test results – Look for them in your previous inspection report. • Have a cathodic protection test done if more than 3 years since last test. • Keep track of test results • So long as there is enough cathodic protection, nothing more to do

  6. Impressed Current Rectifier

  7. If Impressed Current • Find your 60 day rectifier log or start one. • Provide inspector with any previous test results and 60 day rectifier log. • Have a cathodic protection test done if more than 3 years since last test or as recommended by a Corrosion Expert. • Have rectifier checked and serviced, as needed. • Keep track of test records

  8. Tank lining • Not common • No further testing so long as cathodic protection present and maintained • Studies of liner failures are starting to come in.
