  4. WHAT IS BEST STARTS?

  5. VISION We want to see more babies born healthy, more kids thrive, and more young people grow up to be happy, healthy, successful adults.

  6. HOW DO WE DO IT? EARLY INTERVENTION POLICY & SYSTEMS CHANGE PROMOTION PREVENTION

  7. APPROACH • Biennium investment of $2.7million • Developmental promotion enables home visitors, childcare providers, health care providers and other community supports to monitor and celebrate developmental milestones in collaboration with families. • Best Starts for Kids will support developmental screenings that help professionals connect families to early promotion, prevention and intervention supports and services when the child’s developing brain is most capable of change.

  8. Funding Specifics This RFP will pilot new, expanding or evolving developmental screening and referral programs. • 12-month contracts for screening materials, training, staff time, data gathering, evaluation

  9. Funding Specifics King County will fund a mix of projects: • Implement a new screening program • Strengthen or adapt an existing developmental screening tool or program • Implement or strengthen a referral and case management system

  10. FUNDING PRIORITIES/ PROCESS The most successful applicant(s) will demonstrate the following experience and core competencies: 1. Commitment to and alignment with Best Starts for Kids vision, goals and indicators. 2. Commitment to King County Equity and Social Justice strategic plan’s vision and goals. 3. Project meets the needs of stakeholders within communities of color and/or underserved communities. 4. Community stakeholders, including the population served by the proposed program, are meaningfully engaged. 5. Willingness to learn and document adjustments to meet emerging needs as well as a willingness to engage in shared learning. 6. Experience implementing relevant or similar programs or services.

KING COUNTY DATA RESOURCES Best Starts for Kids Indicators: www.kingcounty.gov/bskindicators • Population-level data about what is happening in King County overall • Information about issues related to BSK, often disaggregated by race/ethnicity, region, and more • Find the topic you’re looking for using result area, indicator type, and search

DATA & EVALUATION THINGS TO KNOW • All programs will be required to participate in evaluation efforts: • Build into budget • Share data to track project progress & outcomes • No evaluation plan is required with your proposal. If awarded, BSK will partner with your organization to develop one. • Where possible, BSK will attempt to coordinate with other existing data collection.

  18. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS • MUST BE RECEIVED IN ZOOMGRANTS BY JULY 12th AT MIDNIGHT • Narrative questions limited to 3000 characters • 12-month Budget Questions must be submitted through ZoomGrants • Check for the weekly FAQ
