  5. Now your turn to act! Review Luke 2:15-20 and act out using your own lingo. • Scene at the manger • Characters: Mary, Joseph, the shepherds. • Need a baby, cloths, box (for baby), props (blankets for characters, stick).

His circumcision & Presentation • At the eighth day, circumcision & named. • Presentation at Temple • Simeon, a righteous & devout man, looking for the coming of Messiah. • Note what was revealed to him, what he saw and said. (ii.29-32) • Revelation still happens today! (Lilies Amongst Thorns pg 25) • Anna, old godly woman, stayed in the Temple. • Testified about Jesus.

  7. Some thoughts… Consider these events: • Why the census? Why Bethlehem? • There were many babies being dedicated, yet Simeon and Anna met up with baby Jesus at the right time and the right place! Are you wondering about your life? Does God really care for you? These events show us that God will direct and fulfil His wonderful plan for us as we walk faithfully in Him. 

  8. Jesus in the Temple (2:41-52) At 12 years of age at feast of the Passover. (Temple, Jerusalem) What so special about 12 years old? preparation to take their places in the religious community the following year -a recognised legal age. Presented with phylacteries and incurred legal obligations. Called “a son of the law”. Do you think He knows His relationship with God? (Son of God) Why? (2:49)

  9. Taking a look at past years questions • Popular chapter for exam. A Part A 2007 question. Repeated in SPM 2010. • Saying of the angel to the shepherds. • Significance of the 12 years old. • Ponderings of Mary in her heart. • Account of the three events.

  10. The Birth of Jesus (2:1-20) The angel said, “Don’t be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David’s town your Saviour was born – Christ the Lord! And this is what will prove it to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” The angel said, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!”

  11. The Birth of Jesus (2:10-15) Who said these words? To whom? What was the sign to the shepherd? Where was Jesus born? Where did He live? Who was the governor of Syria at that time? Note these two messages ... Exam stuff! Why did Mary remember all these things and thought deeply about them?
