  1. How is PR presented in I believe popular culture has a significant role to play in what ideas people derive from PR. There is a need for companies and organisations to incorporate PR into their work and with a bad reputation looming people may chose to ignore the need for PR. The future of PR is extremely bright and an essential part of business, however given certain circumstances, it may not be certain. Allyson Loots - How is PR represented in popular culture?

  2. Abstract/summary of report My research stems from my interest in finding causes and reasons for the often bad reputation of Public Relations. In my research I highlight the media, and television I particular as one of the causes of a false and misinterpreted view of PR. I used a character analysis and Communication Theory as methodologies and theory representation for my report about the representation of PR. My analysis and research into the topic helped me draw the conclusion that characters on television playing PR roles help people gather a negative, misconstrued opinion that PR is all about being rich and famous, that the occupation is unnecessary and full of people who are lazy deceive others to benefit themselves. This idea derived from such programmes and films, I find to be completely untrue and a poor representation of the career I wish to pursue. Allyson Loots - How is PR represented in popular culture?

  4. Define PR & Popular Culture: There is no one set definition for PR PUBLIC RELATIONS- “Public Relations is about reputation - the result of what you do, what you say and what others say about you.”“Public Relations is the discipline which looks after reputation, with the aim of earning understanding and support and influencing opinion and behaviour. It is the planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain goodwill and mutual understanding between an organisation and its publics.” POPULAR CULTURE- “Modern popular culture transmitted via the mass media and aimed particularly at younger people: fashion, music, and the iconography of pop culture offered the perfect medium for profit” Allyson Loots - How is PR represented in popular culture?

  8. Functions of communication models (Pete Wilby) • Organise thinking • - Communication as a process • - Communication as a structure • Turning theory into ‘concrete’ • Explanatory • Heuristic - solve problems • Predictive Communication Theory PR • Grunig and Hunt’s “4 Models” of Public Relations practice seems to be the most talked-about theory in PR. • The “4 Models” describe approaches to communication in public relations showing just how the industry has evolved. Grunig and Hunt believe the “ideal” approach to public relations is something they call the 2-way symmetrical model. • The three other models identified by Grunig and Hunt are that of ‘The Press Agentry model’, ‘The public Information model’ and ‘The Two way Asymmetrical Model’. • Other than Grunig and Hunts models of PR development, there are plenty of other examples of communication models which have different uses such as that of explaining things, turning theory into concrete, to organize thinking of communication as a process and a structure. • Harold Lasswell (1948), Wilbur Schramm (1961) and Shannon and Weaver (1948) are other examples of communication models.
