Technology has the potential to revolutionize education, leading to improved student performance when it aligns with curriculum goals. This piece explores various forms of media in education, distinguishing between push media, like lectures, and pull media, such as online searches. Tools like computers, PowerPoint, and internet resources facilitate learning and presentations while providing access to vast information. However, challenges such as limited access, technical issues, and age-appropriate technology use must be addressed to fully harness the benefits.

Technology and Learning Technology has the capacity to bring learning endless results! “Technology improves student performance when the application directly supports the curriculum objectives being assessed.” -CARET Center For Applied Research in Educational Technology
Push vs. Pull media • Push media is the type we watch or listen to as it is “pushed” or delivered to us – examples: lectures, powerpoint presentations. • Pull Media is information we pull for ourselves – examples: internet searches, and this course!
Computers • Allow work to be done at home, schools or the library. • Have opened up a new world of information retrieval right at the fingertips.
PowerPoint • Help with student and teacher presentations • Aid in public speaking • Time saving! Can be used over & over again • Enhance the way students learn
Internet • Give full access to search engines and academic resources • On-line library makes education more accessible • Example: University of Arizona Library
Overhead Projectors • Gives ability to present information • Shows the entire class at once • Modern day white boards can function as wall sized computer monitors.
Possible Con’s with New Technology? • Lack of computer access or poor ability to utilize computer resources can be a problem. • Teaching younger children – how much access should they have? • Glitches! Power outages, lack of internet connectivity etc.. can stop the whole show!
